Capricorn Events Receive Major Funding in State Announcement

A recent announcement by Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Kate Jones has confirmed $120,000 worth of funding as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s (TEQ) second round of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) for four major events within the Capricorn Region.

Events in the Capricorn Region supported under Round 2 of the QDEP include:

  • Capricorn Food & Wine Festival (16-18 September 2016) $10,000
  • Capricorn Coast Running Festival (2 October 2016) $10,000
  • Gemfest – Festival of Gems (11-14 August 2016) $90,000
  • Rockhampton River Festival (15-17 July 2016) $10,000

Minister Jones said the QDEP supported high-value regional events which contributed to Queensland’s $23 billion tourism industry.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to growing our tourism industry because that means more jobs for Queenslanders,” Ms Jones said.

“Local events help drive visitation to Queensland’s tourism regions, support local economies and create more local jobs.

“In conjunction with the It’s Live! in Queensland major event calendar, these events are an important contributor to our tourism growth,” she said.

Mary Carroll, Capricorn Enterprise CEO, said “We are thrilled with this result and it once again proves that our events are succeeding in a very competitive environment. When new and existing events are scoring so well on a state-wide scale, it’s easy to see why the region’s event tourism is continuing to grow.”

“We would like to congratulate the committees behind the funded events and all those who have contributed in various ways to make these events happen,” she said.

QDEP Round Three applications are open until 16 March 2016 for events held between 3 October 2016 and 8 October 2017. To apply for Tourism and Events Queensland’s Queensland Destination Events Program visit – teq.queensland.com or to discover more great events go to www.queensland.com
