Rockhampton ADANI Supplier Roadshow Generates Local Interest

The Rockhampton ADANI Supplier Roadshow conducted on Monday January 23rd generated high levels of interest from businesses across Central Queensland and beyond.

Hosted by the Bowen Basin Mining Club, with Capricorn Enterprise being an Event Partner, the Rockhampton briefings attracted a reported 300 industry representatives who were addressed by key personnel from ADANI and their Tier 1 Contractor, the Downer Group.

The ADANI Project (incorporating the Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Projects) involves the development of six open-cut coal pits, five mine infrastructure areas, coal handling and processing plants, heavy industrial area, water supply, 288 kilometre rail line, plus off-site infrastructure including workers accommodation villages and airport. Based on current time-lines, the overall project is scheduled to commence early 2018.

The overall project investment is estimated at $16.5 Billion.

Indications are that the mine will generate employment of up to 1,075 FTE (full time equivalent jobs in construction) and 3,800 FTE (operational) plus rail project of up to 1,400 FTE (construction) and 120 FTE (operational).

Presentations by Peter Thomas, Project Director, (formerly with Fortescue Metals); Clint Zahmel, Head of Commercial; Rupen Shah, Project Manager – Port and Rail with ADANI; plus Vikesh Magan Project Director – Downer Group alerted attendees to the key timelines for both the mine construction plus port and rail projects. Additionally details on the extent of specialist contractor requirements, labour hire details, equipment and facilities needs plus new and upgraded infrastructure inclusions (roads/bridges/accommodation camps etc) were highlighted.

Whilst work package details weren’t provided – all attendees interested to engage in the project were informed of the process for registering their interest and capabilities by either a email direct to ADANI at:

Mine Project:  supply.mine@adani.in and

Rail Project:    supply.rail@adani.in  or go the Adani Regional Supplier Portal (after April this year).

Suppliers and contractors wishing to register with the Downer Group should contact Downer direct.

Economic Development Manager Neil Lethlean will provide Project updates as they come to hand.
