Tourism Experience Development Fund launched

On 28 June 2022, the Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement, officially launched the new $15M Tourism Experience Development Fund.

The new Fund is a key initiative of the Queensland Government’s Interim Response to the Towards 2032: Reshaping Queensland’s visitor economy to welcome the world’ (Action Plan), and aims to: rebuild visitor confidence in Queensland’s tourism industry; drive demand for Queensland destinations; and meet the changing preferences of consumers through enhanced tourism products.

Funding will be offered over one round with grants of between $50,000 and $200,000 (excluding GST) on offer to deliver new and enhanced compelling tourism products and experiences in Queensland. Applicants will be required to contribute at least 75% of the total project cost.

Applicants must be a private sector (for-profit) business, a not-for-profit organisation or local government authority with an established operating base in Queensland with a tourism-related focus.

To be considered for funding, projects should include high growth attributes such as:

  • eco-tourism – to showcase Queensland’s natural assets
  • accessible and inclusive tourism
  • First Nations experiences and
  • adventure tourism.

Full details of the Fund can be found in the Industry Guidelines available at www.dtis.qld.gov.au. Applications for funding can be submitted through the Smartygrants portal on the Department’s website from will 15 July 2022. Applications will close on 26 August 2022.
