The Mackay region is hosting the 2018 Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) national conference from 22 – 25 October. The SEGRA conference attracts delegates from industry, research institutions, regional development authorities, and Federal, State and Local Government across Australia.  It provides a unique opportunity for all sections of the community to explore key issues affecting regional, rural and remote Australia.  (More information can be found on SEGRA 2018 by visiting https://segra.com.au/).

If you cannot attend the entire conference, there are a number of activities within the program that are being offered as stand-alone events. Here are a few to consider:

Industry Forum: Monday 22 October , 9:30am–5pm, CQU Mackay

The Industry Forum will include: a tour of Mackay City exploring recent developments; a panel discussion with leaders across the agricultural industry; and sessions focusing on the resource sector and the growing tourism industry. Mayoral Welcome Drinks (Free event):  Monday 22 October, 5pm–6:30pm, CQU

Leading Futurists: Tuesday, 23 October, 8:30am–11am, MECC

SEGRA has created a special ticketed event for the morning session of Day 1.  Businesses and community groups are encouraged to attend and hear two inspirational keynote speakers on regional and business futures. The first speaker, Professor Sohail Inayatullah, UNESCO Chair in Futures Studies, will present four possible regional futures scenarios. Sohail will be followed by James Wright, CEO of the Future Business Council, who will explore our economic drivers (eg. energy, heavy industry, agriculture, services), challenge their future prosperity, and question if we are well-placed to seize the opportunities ahead.

Big Ideas to Best Ideas (Free Event): Wednesday, 24 October, 4pm – 5pm, MECC

Big Ideas to Best Ideas pitching event will be held during the conference.  Students are particularly encouraged to participate, however, everyone with an idea is welcome!  Flyer for this event..  (Note, you do not need to register for the conference – you just need to contact Mette info@segra.com.au if you would like to attend.)

Study Tours: Thursday, 25 October:
