The Queensland Government will, from July 1, 2018, enforce a state-wide ban on single-use plastic bags including HDPE plastic bags, biodegradable, compostable, and degradable bags. This ban affects all retailers, not just supermarkets or ‘traditional’ retail.  Will your business be ready?

To minimise negative impacts such as loss of turnover or consumer criticism, the National Retail Association has partnered with the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection to help retail businesses prepare for the ban and successfully manage the transition.

The National Retail Association will be visiting retailers at the below locations:

 Gladstone – Monday 20 November

  • Stockland Gladstone 9am
  • Gladstone Central 10am
  • Gladstone CBD (Goondoon Street) 11am

 Rockhampton – Monday 20 November

  • Stockland Rockhampton 2pm
  • City Centre Plaza 3.30pm
  • Rockhampton CBD (East Street) 4pm

 Yeppoon – Tuesday 21 November

  • Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre 11.30am
  • Keppel Bay Plaza 12.30pm
  • Yeppoon CBD (James St & Anzac Pde) 1pm

Retailers who would like to arrange a face-to-face meeting can call 0403 559 075 or email qldbagban@nra.net.au.

A suite of resources, materials and messages have been designed to help retail businesses prepare for the impending ban. For example, the QLD BAG BAN Website (www.qldbagban.com.au) provides comprehensive detail on the ban legislation, advice on how to manage the transition, and free resources such as factsheets, in-store signage and team training kits.
