Stories of first responders

Gain some insight into our community’s emergency services staff when The Rockhampton Grammar School/Suncorp Bank Breakfast on the Fitzroy 2017 Conversation Series continues at the RGS Rowing Club on Tuesday, 9 May.

The Breakfast will present stories from “First Responders” who will talk about their experiences, their inspirations and how they cope with the highs and lows that are involved in their challenging jobs.

Guest speakers include Mark Edwards (Rockhamtpon Base Hospital Emergency Department/ LifeFlight), Ed Cowie (SES), David Peff (Queensland Police), Kelli Blomfield (Queensland Ambulance) and Tanya Mellett (Rockhampton Base Hospital medicine specialist).

Not only are the jobs of this group an interesting topic to hear about but also how they entered their current professions.

Mark Edwards was trained as an aerospace engineer and worked for a NASA supported research centre at the University of Colorado. He also supported several NASA space shuttle missions. He later pursued a career in medicine.

Ed Cowie’s role with the SES crosses over with many other emergency service departments. Prior to joining the SES full time Ed was a member of the Queensland Police Service.

Not only do these people have important and busy jobs, it will also be enlightening to hear how they cope with the emotional aspects of their daily work.

Plus, a Suncorp presentation on the Federal Budget.

Prices are $30/seat; $15 for students. Corporate tables of 8 for $200 are also available. Seating is limited to about 100 guests.
