Tourism Volunteers Recognised During National Volunteer Week
Posted on May 12th, 2016
Capricorn Enterprise’s 60 wonderful volunteers have been honoured this National Volunteers Week for their service 363 days a year in welcoming our visitors to the region.
Capricorn Enterprise manages 2 (two) Accredited Visitor Information Centres (VIC’s) in the Capricorn Region (Yeppoon and The Spire Gladstone Road) on behalf of the Rockhampton Regional Council and Livingstone Shire Council. The VIC’s are open 363 days a year (closed only Good Friday and Christmas Day).
CEO Mary Carroll said “Accredited Visitor Information Centres cost on average $100,000 each to operate 363 days a year. Without the support of our wonderful volunteers, the real cost of staffing an information centre seven days a week would be five times that amount which of course is unaffordable.”
“We are just one of many not-for-profit organisations in the community reliant upon the selfless time provided by our volunteer staff in greeting our visitors and promoting our local businesses.
Queries from visitors are not just for accommodation and tours/attractions, but for pet kennels, tyre/mechanical repairs, local markets, events, supermarkets, RACQ, chemists, Doctors and local Council offices, so it’s important our volunteers are trained in every aspect of our local community” she said. “Some of our wonderful volunteers have been with us for over twenty (20) years”.
Capricorn Enterprise volunteers were honoured at breakfast and morning tea events this week where they were presented with a Certificate of Service co-signed by Volunteering Queensland and Capricorn Enterprise.
