Take an annual leave day next Monday 24th April and enjoy a four day holiday in your own backyard in the lead up to one of Australia’s most significant commemorative public holidays – ANZAC Day Tuesday 25th April.
That’s the message from the region’s peak tourism body, in its efforts to help stimulate the local Tourism and Retail industry after a soft school holiday period following TC Debbie and the flooding of the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton.
Capricorn Enterprise chief executive Mary Carroll said “whilst we honour our country’s brave men and women on ANZAC Day next Tuesday 25th April, many workers are taking an annual leave day on Monday 24th April to spend a four day long weekend with their loved ones.”
“With the following May Day long weekend, we are hopeful that three consecutive long weekends (Easter, ANZAC Day, May Day) will help stimulate our local economy after many businesses lost a lot of trade during the school holiday fortnight” she said.
Ms Carroll said “whilst the Easter long weekend was thankfully busy in our tourism hotspots, many local businesses suffered major losses from the school holiday fortnight and we need these long weekends to help make up some of those losses.”
Capricorn Enterprise is asking local media to help spread the word whilst asking employers to consider granting annual leave days to their staff. Tourism and Retail businesses of course are used to 7 day trading and look forward to assistance from local residents and workers who can take a holiday in their own back yard to help stimulate our local economy.
“Our official destination website has some fantastic holiday deals from the Central Highlands to the Keppel Islands, taking in Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast/Rockhampton to the Sandstone Wilderness areas of Carnarvon Gorge and Sapphire Gemfields.”
