Community celebrated grand opening of Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct
Posted on May 8th, 2018
The official opening of the Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct was held on Saturday 5th May 2018, with the community celebrating this historic regional event.
The opening event was not only a celebration of the completion of the Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct but also represented the official opening celebration for the entire Yeppoon Town Centre and Foreshore Revitalisation Project.
The event coincided with the 150 Year Anniversary of Yeppoon’s official gazettal as a township in 1868.
In celebrating both milestones, the community were able to reflect on the town’s rich history while also embracing the opportunities and bright future ahead that these new world-class facilities will bring.
Everyone was invited to take part in the fantastic community event and family-fun day.
This unique facility has been designed to include both a shallow children’s play area as well as an informal lap swimming area and shaded areas in and around the lagoon, while the two-storey pavilion building will offer stunning interactive dining areas overlooking the entire precinct and coastline.
The official opening featured a full program of activities including live music, family fun, fireworks proudly sponsored by Woollam Constructions, and a variety of food vendors.
The Yeppoon Foreshore and Town Centre Revitalisation (Stages 3, 4 & 5) was a $53 million project jointly funded with the Australian Government contributing $10 million, the Queensland Government contributing $29 million, and Livingstone Shire Council contributing $14 million.
