Community hubs backed by Stanwell Power Station

For centuries, community halls have been important social hubs for residents to meet, host events, and develop a sense of place and connection, within their local neighbourhood.

These adaptive multi-functional spaces, whose four walls are often bursting with the township’s tales, are constantly adapting, and evolving, ensuring they stay relevant to modern community needs.

Stanwell Power Station’s Community Partnership Fund has contributed towards some much-needed funding assisting with improvements, upgrades, and revitalisations of four community halls west of Rockhampton.

For Stanwell, powering Queensland is about more than just providing electricity – it’s about empowering the communities in which they operate to be vibrant, prosperous, and inclusive.

Check out the four halls below to book your next function or event…

Stanwell Hall – 25km west of Rockhampton

A true Central Queensland gem, the Stanwell Hall regularly comes to life with old time dances, social events, trivia nights, bingo, line dancing and more.

Maintained and managed by the Stanwell Progress Association, the Hall forms a broader Stanwell network consisting of the community tennis court, and sports grounds.

Recent funding enabled the purchase of a new ride on mower, replacing the 20-year-old mower that was experiencing mechanical issues. As the Hall’s volunteers are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the hall grounds as well as the adjacent cemetery, the project ensured the provision of safe, low maintenance and efficient equipment for volunteers to keep the land suitable for use by the Stanwell community, and those who travel to the area to visit the cemetery.

Kalapa Hall – 39km west of Rockhampton

Sitting proudly within the rural township of Kalapa, the hall and its members have a big community heart, and the large open spaces offer up limitless possibilities. Managed by the Kalapa Hall and Sports Committee, the hall and grounds are home to many activities and functions including the annual Kalapa Horse Sports event.

The hall also hosts community information sessions, multi-vendor clearing sales and is available for public hire.

Recent funding from the Stanwell Community Partnership Fund enabled the Kalapa Hall and Sports Committee to purchase a tank stand as part of a bigger project that included the installation of a donated windmill and piping to connect and enhance water supply. The enhanced water supply would be utilised by Kalapa Rural Fire Brigade, the hall building and grounds. The improved water connection will allow the facility to maintain the upkeep of the hall’s grounds during times of drought and increase the water storage capability for the rural fire brigade.

Wycarbah Hall – 48km west of Rockhampton

The main function of the Wycarbah Hall and grounds is to provide a charming and tranquil facility for members of the community and government agencies to utilise. Newly repainted, this space is truly breathtaking, with many people enquiring about weddings and events at this pristine location.

It is a vibrant place of hospitality and welcomes numerous organisations lobbying to improve farming and grazing practices, provides a base for knowledge sharing between difference advocacy groups, and is a venue for families to celebrate special occasions in a safe and secure environment.

Funding provided by Stanwell’s Community Partnership Fund in 2021 enabled the Wycarbah Progress Association to deliver a vital component of their revitalisation project by having the interior of the Wycarbah Hall repainted. The upgrade further enhanced the hall’s appeal for hire, helping the Association continue to generate income into the future. They Wycarbah Hall was also successful in obtaining funding from Stanwell in 2019/20 to replace access stairs and install a chair lift to the hall.

Westwood Hall – 50km west of Rockhampton

A vital community hub that connects residents and visitors in a quaint facility   for social gatherings and good old ‘chit chat’, the Westwood Hall is a home base for many organisations and events.

Doubling as a favourite pit stop for visitor’s utilising the rest area and bathroom, the Westwood Hall is maintained and managed by the Westwood Progress Association, who’s committee members have continued to enhance the Hall over the years to create an accessible, attractive, and comfortable space.

Funding provided by the Stanwell Community Partnership Fund has enabled the installation of a suspended ceiling and ceiling fan, allowing the hall’s volunteers to easily maintain the cleanliness and usability of the hall for community events. The upgrade assisted the Association in their goal to reinvigorate the hall as a community hub.
