Opening Sustainably in CQ
Posted on November 22nd, 2022
Since Plastic Free CQ commenced in Livingstone and Rockhampton Regions thanks to the full support of both Councils, they are seeing retailers open sustainably. Business owners are making contact before they open and seeking available options to them by way of single-use plastic-free packaging, reusable and therefore being waste-free.
New small local businesses are looking to the future by not engaging with unnecessary waste when they launch! Or new owners taking over currently thriving businesses are making the necessary changes as soon as they can. Even going a step further engaging in reusable cup programs and back-of-house audits, to remove any unnecessary waste and work together on waste-free solutions. Businesses can engage in the Containers for Change program at no cost to them.
Soltree and The Alley Yeppoon are members who engaged and opened sustainably, with zero waste or no single-use plastic items. Both businesses offer reusable systems that are free and easy to engage with. The Alley Yeppoon is using its funds for staff Christmas parties. What a great way to get your team involved and engaged in reducing your waste on-site. Soltree Foods in Yeppoon have zero waste all their products are available in BYO jars or clean jars in store! If you are health conscious get on down to Soletree today you won’t be disappointed.
Many CQ food businesses want options to reduce packaging and unnecessary waste one way is behaviour changes with the business and its immediate community. A reusable cup program is a great way to achieve this. By working with members Plastic Free CQ reduce single-use cups and lids and grow reusables and dine-in. Ideas such as Mug Libraries, swap and go and byo assists businesses to make these changes easily and cost-free. Thanks so much to reusable cup champions for 2022 Ocean Brew Eatery located in Emu Park, Cups & Muffs located on Campus CQU, The Alley located in Yeppoon CBD and The Green Eat located on Bolsover St, Rockhampton (launching 5 December).
“Less waste in the door is less waste out the door”!
“As consumers, our decision is made at the point of sale”!
“Businesses like to have customers, so show support by dining in”!
CQ caters to it all, so support their members trying to cut down on their waste, say no to any single-use plastic, carry and engage with reusable options and always dine in where you can. Carry reusable cutlery, straw, cup and water bottle, this is a way as a community we cut down on landfill. Our waste is our responsibility.
