The prestigious Queensland Tourism Awards, held on the Gold Coast last weekend, brought together hundreds of representatives working within the state’s diverse tourism industry in what was a celebration and reflection of the incredible operators working tirelessly to provide visitors with exceptional experiences.
Of the 31 Award categories presented, the Southern Great Barrier Reef placed within 12, with Rockhampton’s Empire Apartment Hotel receiving Gold in the Business Event Venues category and Silver in the 4-4.5 Star Accommodation category.
Rockhampton’s increasingly popular Easter weekend event, Rockynats, received silver accolades in the Festivals and Events category, while Explore Rockhampton also clocked up a silver for Tourism and Marketing Campaigns.
Capricorn Enterprise members Fun Over 50 Holidays– Immersive Tours & Adventures swept the floor with Gold in two categories including Cultural Tourism and Tour and/or Transport Operators, along with receiving a silver Award for the Steve Irwin Award for Ecotourism.
Many Southern Great Barrier Reef operators including Bundaberg Rum Distillery Visitor Experience, Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, Lady Musgrave Experience, Agnes Water/1770 Visitor Information Centre, 1770 LARC! Tours and Macadamias Australia were acknowledged with a variety of Awards, while Lady Elliot Island’s Amy Gash was Awarded the Young Achievers Award.
CEO of Capricorn Enterprise was proud to be a part of the celebrations, congratulating all winners across the destination who continue to make the Southern Great Barrier Reef a fabulous place to holiday, work and live.
“The financial investment of these awards in engaging the expert writing skills and advice of award contractors has proven very successful over the years for our entrants, so we encourage more to consider their time and budget allocation now for next year’s Awards,” Mary said.
“We have a number of eligible businesses in our region worthy of a state award, but you have to be in it to win it, so I strongly encourage more of our operators to consider entering for the 2023 Queensland Tourism Awards which will be held in Cairns next November.”
“Awards aren’t just about receiving a gong – they are a valid and helpful measure in achieving success, taking a lens to all aspects of a business or event, including human, financial and risk management, marketing and profitability,” Mary said.
Twenty-eight of the Queensland Award recipients progress to the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in March 2023 to be judged against finalists from each State and Territory.
“The Queensland Tourism Awards and this week’s launch of the Towards Tourism 2032 roadmap are part of an exciting future for Queensland’s tourism industry,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“With the rebuild of our international visitor economy underway and a runway of opportunities to the 2032 Games, Queensland tourism operators have a lot to look forward to.”
