Strong population growth projected for our region

The latest Queensland Government Population Projections show that the Capricorn Coast and Livingstone Shire Council area are projected to have a higher average annual growth rate than the Central Queensland region (0.8%) or Queensland (1.4%) at 1.8 percent. The population is projected to increase by 23,109 persons over a 25 year period from 39,881 persons in 2021 to 62,990 persons.
Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said, “These projections show what we’ve always known about our region: it’s a great place to live, work, play and invest.
“With increasing numbers of future residents living in our region, jobs growth and investment in our community remains a priority.”
Based on assumptions regarding future trends in migration, fertility and mortality, as well as planning and development information, the medium population projection series anticipates that the Central Queensland region will increase from 231,104 persons in 2021 to 282,790 persons by 2046.

Within Central Queensland, the Rockhampton Regional Council area has the largest population and this is anticipated to continue, growing from 82,904 persons in 2021 to 96,380 persons by 2046, an additional 13,476 persons at an average annual growth rate of 0.6 percent.
