Dig the Tropic Story Featured on Channel 9’s Getaway

Exciting news for geo-tourism enthusiasts! The fascinating Dig the Tropic journey will be featured on Channel 9’s Getaway on Saturday, 5th October, at 5.30 pm.

This episode will showcase our local Capricorn Caves and Capricorn Dinosaur Park, bringing the wonders of the Tropic of Capricorn right into your living room.

Commissioned by Capricorn Enterprise and filmed last year with Presenter David Whitehill and cameraman Roger Price, this segment is part of a broader effort to promote the Dig the Tropic geo-tourism trail across our stunning region.

Thanks to a successful contestable grant from Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and a funding partnership with Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) and Outback Qld Tourism Association (OQTA),

the Dig the Tropic re-imagined project aims to leverage specific campaign funds to re-promote the Dig the Tropic geo-tourism trail.

David and Roger visited the Sapphire Gemfields, dropping in at Miners Heritage, New Royal Hotel Rubyvale, Rubyvale Gem Gallery, before heading to Mt Hay Gemstone Tourist Park, Capricorn Caves, and the Capricorn Dinosaur Park.

Getaway, airing nationally in Australia and New Zealand, boasts a viewership of 350,000, with additional online access via 9NOW. The previous stories commissioned in 2022 were such a hit that they aired again in 2023, providing an incredible return on investment. Check them out below…
