Rockhampton Hosts 2024 Major Projects and Industry Forum with Future Energy, Projects, and Manufacturing Taking Centre Stage

The Frenchville Sports Club in Rockhampton bustled with energy on Thursday 12th September as industry leaders, business professionals, and community stakeholders came together for the 2024 Major Projects and Industry Forum.

Hosted by Capricorn Enterprise and proudly sponsored by Central Queensland Power, the event focused on pivotal themes shaping the region’s future: Future Energy, Projects, and Manufacturing, with sessions on Research and Education.

Now in its eighth year, this premier industry event welcomed a record number of 14 expert speakers, who provided valuable insights into transformative developments happening across Central Queensland.

The Future Energy session explored the rapid progress of renewable energy projects and sustainable initiatives, emphasizing their potential to power Central Queensland’s economic growth.

Mark Grenning from the Energy Users Association of Australia kicked off the Forum by sharing insights into the challenges regional Queensland faces in the energy market over the next five years for commercial and industrial customers.

Angie Zahra from Stanwell Corporation followed with an insightful look into advancing energy’s future. Max Hogan and Blake Harvey from Energy Queensland provided updates on their role in supporting the region’s energy transition, while Mitchell King from Central Queensland Power spoke about the challenges and opportunities in the renewables industry. Kath Elliot from Squadron Energy rounded off the session with updates on the Clarke Creek Wind Farm project.

The second session, focused on Projects, delved into major infrastructure investments. It showcased the vast opportunities for job creation and economic diversification. Speakers included Kim Hetherington from Construction Skills Queensland, Hugh Barbour from Gladstone Area Water Board, Lewis Glynn from Surf Lakes Capricorn Coast, and Damien Massingham from Frenchville Sports Club, who all provided insights into their respective infrastructure projects.

The Forum’s final session brought together Rob Alexander from The Cathedral College, Jennifer McGuire from AusIndustry, Jamshid Aghaei from CQ University, and Natalie Rogers from All Industries Group. They explored innovative partnerships between industry and academic institutions, highlighting the critical role of research in advancing industry capabilities and workforce development.
