Local Marine Operators Welcome MSQ Boss to Region

Local marine operators were pleased to meet with Kell Dillon, General Manager, Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ), Department of Transport and Main Roads (based in Brisbane), and John Fallon, Regional Harbour Master (based at the Port of Gladstone) earlier this week at the Keppel Bay Marina.

The meeting was secured by Capricorn Enterprise on behalf of our Member operators, after meeting Kell at the Australian Cruise Association (ACA) conference over a year ago in Wollongong NSW.

The visit to Rosslyn Bay Harbour was part of Kell’s whirlwind tour of a number of Ports along the Queensland coastline, having been in the role for under two years.  He was very keen to have a meaningful discussion with our marine operators and has a great respect for regional areas and their specific needs.

MSQ are responsible for 21 Ports in Queensland and on-water compliance for 1.1 million boat licenses and 380,000 boat registrations.  Waters to three (3) nautical miles off the coast of Queensland fall under MSQ jurisdiction.

There are five (5) Regional Harbour Masters in Qld, with Rosslyn Bay Harbour under the jurisdiction of the Gladstone region, along with Port Alma, Gladstone Port and Bundaberg.

Special thanks to Keppel Bay Marina for hosting lunch and we appreciated LSC Mayor Adam Belot joining us at short notice.  Thanks to our operators who were able to attend including KBM, Freedom Fast Cats, Funtastic Cruises/Keppel Dive, Keppel Konnections/GKI Hideaway, Double Threat Charters and Rosslyn Bay Fish Market.  A few of our marine operator Members were unable to attend including Pumpkin Xpress/Island and Keppel Explorer.
