Tourism Research Australia has released it’s NVS (National Visitor Survey) and IVS (International Visitor Survey) data to the year ending December 2024.

Capricorn Enterprise, the region’s peak tourism and economic development organisation is very pleased with the results but highlights an urgent need for new commercial accommodation.

The official Capricorn Coast region statistics which includes the two Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Rockhampton and Livingstone has revealed an annual 6.8% increase in domestic visitors and a 12.5% increase in international visitors to the year ending December 2024 compared to the previous year.  Domestic visitor growth since 2019 is 10.6%.

842,000 domestic and 41,000 international visitors stayed for 2,823,000 nights and 328,000 nights respectively, with Aussies spending $703M and foreigners spending $25M.

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said “Business visitors are very strong with a 15.3% increase since 2019, which reflects our extremely stable and diverse regional economy.”

“Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR) have shown the strongest growth since 2019, with a 39% increase, reflecting the increasing number of new residents moving to our region.”

“Holiday visitation also remains strong which reflects the urgent need for additional short term accommodation, particularly in Yeppoon and along the coast, which is losing short term rooms to long term rentals.”

“We desperately need 1,200 new short term accommodation rooms to meet current and future demand to 2032, so we are eager for approved developments to proceed as soon as possible.”
