Promoting Our Region Far & Wide is Key
Posted on June 16th, 2015
The Capricorn Coast has been beamed on a record number of television shows within the shortest period of time ever, as part of our economic recovery activity (post TC Marcia), thanks to strong partnerships between Capricorn Enterprise, Local and State Government (via Tourism and Events Queensland), Industry Associations (Caravanning Qld), media and of course our Member businesses!
Weekend Sunrise (Channel 7) will be crossing live this Saturday 13th June with James Tobin as he delivers the half hour weather reports from the Keppel Bay Marina, during six (6) segments between 7am to 10am. James will be experiencing Queensland’s ‘winter’ promoting our sailing, dining, local seafood produce and fishing. Local residents and visitors are most welcome to be spectators on the day – grab a coffee at the Waterline Restaurant and witness some live filming!
This type of promotion costs about $25,000 but has extraordinary media value (approx $800,000) and forms part of extra marketing activity being rolled out thanks to additional funding via the state government authorised by Tourism Minister Kate Jones and administered via Tourism and Events Queensland within the Southern Great Barrier Reef destination budget.
Last Saturday 6th June, the Capricorn Coast absolutely shone in a special half hour segment with Channel 7’s Queensland Weekender. Stunning footage of presenter Chris Parsons with Skydive Capricorn, as well as magical footage at Great Keppel Island, Yeppoon (Cruisin’ By Beach Hire, Coastal Funk) and the Capricorn Caves has provided a much needed boost to our destination after the natural weather events earlier this year.
For the past two Saturdays (30th May and 6th June), Andrew Ettingshausen’s fabulous “Escape With ET” fishing, camping and boating show on Channel 10 and ONE HD, has promoted the stunning waters of Keppel Bay off the Capricorn Coast. ET and his fishing buddy Capricorn Enterprise Chairman (and LSC Deputy Mayor) Graham Scott headed out from the beautiful Keppel Bay Marina (where ET also moors his boat) with Graham’s daughter Molly giving the lads a run for their money by reeling in the big Red Emperor!
ET also caught up with his long-time TV buddy Kimberley Busteed while we were filming brand new footage for our new Capricorn Coast destination video. It will be launched at this weekend’s economic development Regional Showcase, a state government initiative to be held in Brisbane, attended by local government authorities throughout Queensland.
Thanks to Caravanning Queensland, on Saturday 23rd May, Channel 7’s Creek to Coast featured Coolwaters Holiday Village and Capricorn Caves.
Thanks to Tourism and Events Queensland, on Sunday 5th April, Channel 7’s Queensland Weekender aired a thirty minute special featuring Queensland’s Great Drives, which included a great segment on the Capricorn Highway with a focus on Emerald and the Central Highlands.
On Friday 4th April, Channel 7’s Better Homes and Gardens re-aired our foodie trail filmed and aired last year with Presenter Johanna Griggs and Chef Fast Ed which was fully funded by Capricorn Enterprise ($20,000) and featured Rocky’s Beef, Yeppoon’s Pineapples and Keppel Bay’s seafood.
Queensland Weekender re-aired on Saturday 21st March, a great feature with local Rocky gal and TV/radio personality Anna Daniels as she explored the heritage of her home town – the Great Western Hotel, Koorana Crocodile Farm, the Quality Hotel Regent Rockhampton and the Quay street heritage precinct.
Thanks to our personal connection with former Rocky lad, Cameron Williams, I scored a five minute live interview on Channel 9’s Weekend Today Show on Saturday 7th March promoting that we are ‘open for business’ post TC Marcia (publicity value $50K).
I also managed a five minute live interview with Koshi and Sam on Channel 7’s Sunrise on Friday 27th February (publicity value $50K), with that critical message.
Until next time.
