Capricorn Enterprise facilitates inaugural meeting of Major Industries Alliance

Representatives from a selection of the region’s major industries joined together at last Friday’s (August 3rd) meeting in Yeppoon to discuss the formalisation of a Major Industries Alliance.

With infrastructure projects exceeding $2 billion either underway or planned to commence across the local area within the ensuing twelve months, maximising local content in ALL of these projects is the primary focus of Capricorn Enterprise and local industry.

Securing a presentation by Mark Burnett, Defence Projects Manager at Downer (the appointed JV Managing Contractors for the ADF $135M Remediation Project) set the scene and focus for Friday’s meeting, particularly as it related to anticipated work packages and methodology for securing local content.

With the emphasis on project scheduling and industry capability for individual projects (civil / construction / engineering or manufacturing – singularly or in cohort) and understanding the necessity for industry collaboration, clustering or joint venture partnering the Alliance has set a base line strategy to advance. This strategy prioritises issues such as:

  • Establishing a timeline for upcoming projects;
  • Identifying industry sector participation and securing local capability;
  • Identifying industry sector growth via clustering or partnering;
  • Lobbing for project scheduling; and
  • Identify constraints and gaps in local industry capability and supply chain and implement a strategy to “fill the gaps”.
