Northern Australia Alliance in Canberra
Posted on October 18th, 2018
This week, Capricorn Enterprise and our six Northern Australia Alliance partners across Qld, NT and WA; Advance Cairns, Townsville Enterprise Ltd, GW3 (Greater Whitsunday Alliance), NT Chamber of Commerce, Karratha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Broome Future Ltd held our annual NAA function at Parliament House and had record attendance of 176 Members of Parliament, Ministers and Shadow Ministers, stakeholders and business/industry representatives to hear the Annual Australia Statement on Developing Northern Australia delivered by Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Senator the Hon Matt Canavan.
In our NAA meetings, Water storage, Regional Migration, East West Infrastructure Corridors and Regional Tax Incentives for business were our common Northern Australia themes which were discussed in length with Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Senator the Hon Matt Canavan and Shadow Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Shadow Minister for Trade and Investment the Hon Jason Clare MP. It was heartening to hear both the Minister and Shadow Minister working together to assist business and industry and the lobbying we focused on last year to have the NAIF mandatory requirements changed to see projects come to fruition has taken a huge leap forward since this time last year.
Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll also held individual meetings on key local topics like current Building Better Region funding applications including the Yeppoon Convention Centre & Sporting Hub and providing updates on Great Keppel Island as well as our Regional Priority Projects with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Regional Development the Hon Michael McCormack MP, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development and Shadow Minister for Tourism the Hon Anthony Albanese MP as well of course as our Federal Member for Capricornia the Hon Michelle Landry MP.
The Deputy PM’s office posted a pic and tweeted “There’s some fantastic projects on the horizon in the Rockhampton region including the Yeppoon Convention Centre, Rookwood Weir, the Northern Australia Agenda & the Capricorn Destination Plan. Great to discuss them this morning with CEO of Capricorn Enterprise Mary Carroll.
