Griff Rhys Jones filming this Friday!

This Friday night, the Great Western Hotel will welcome popular Comedian Griff Rhys Jones who is filming a new ABC series “Griff Off the Rails: Down Under” which explores Australia through its railways.
This 6 part series by Sydney-based Essential Media will feature the “Spirit of the Outback” rail journey through Rockhampton, Emerald, Ilfracombe and Longreach, as well as the “Spirit of Queensland” which travels from Brisbane to Cairns.
The crew are in their final two weeks of an eight week schedule from the west coast to the east coast of Australia, with Tourism and Events Queensland and Regional Tourism Organisations assisting along the way.
It has been a pleasure pitching a number of story angles to the team at Essential Media since early December last year to ensure our destination is featured with at least our very unique GWH live bullriding/steak eating in the “Beef Capital of Australia”.
Whilst the crew are on a tight schedule, we are hopeful that during their stay, they’ll find quality time to explore the city and coast, then after a quick stop over in Emerald on Saturday night, they’ll board the Spirit of the Outback on Sunday morning to head further west.
Whilst this series is about Australia’s great infrastructure history and its people, this is an amazing opportunity to showcase our destination to national and international audiences.
