Brisbane Caravan and Camping Show – 5th to 10th June

Our wonderful ladies from the Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre have just returned from a busy five days at the annual Brisbane Caravan and Camping Show held from the 5th to the 10th June at the RNA Showgrounds!

Volunteers ‘Chick’ (Beverly Gully) and ‘Gillo’ (Beverley Gilligan) with our VIC Supervisor Kathi Perry did a tremendous job promoting our entire Southern Great Barrier Reef destination on the Tourism and Events Queensland stand at the popular show which attracts up to 50,000 visitors each year.

This is the third show in the annual circuit that we attend as an SGBR booth in partnership with our regional tourism colleagues  from Gladstone/1770 and Bundaberg regions, who manned the Melbourne and Sydney caravan and camping shows in February and May respectively.

Whilst the annual escape from the southern wintery weather is widely known as the ‘grey nomad’ movement, most recent research is actually revealing that families with school age children are as big a market for the caravan and camping sector – and growing!

And whilst those lucky enough to be travelling the country for months on end once retired, families are travelling for shorter time periods but more often throughout the year, using long service leave and extended leave arrangements from their workplace.

In fact, parents are reveling in the reality of their kids getting outside and active away from their mobile devices, arguably receiving just as important an education outside as they are inside!

Case in point, many bloggers and influencers with huge on-line audiences are travelling with their children studying home schooling and we are commissioning them to write about our destinations.

Caravan Parks have morphed into sophisticated Holiday Villages with resort pools, waterslides, bike and kayak hire and cabins big enough for three generations to share!

Our beautiful Capricorn region stretching from the Capricorn Coast to the Central Highlands has nearly thirty commercial caravan park/holiday villages with some 17 of those in the Capricorn Coast/Rockhampton region.  These businesses have invested heavily in our destination and are providing an exceptional visitor experience for families and our retirees and everyone in between. Many international visitors travel via campervan hire and stay at our holiday villages.

This market is a key economic driver for our stunning destination with major chains investing here as well as independent operators.

With six shows still to take place in the annual show circuit (Sunshine Coast, New Zealand, Sydney Lifestyle Expo, Melbourne Leisurefest, Canberra Lifestyle Expo, Brisbane Pre-Xmas Sale), whilst we cannot afford to attend them in person, our Southern Great Barrier Reef destination guides will be on display thanks to our strong partnership with Caravanning Queensland who will wave the flag on our behalf!
