Keppel Dive launches on the Southern Great Barrier Reef

In a huge announcement for the Capricorn Coast and greater region, Great Keppel Island Watersports & Activities, who operate from Great Keppel Island, are thrilled to launch their new diving experience, Keppel Dive on the magnificent Southern Great Barrier Reef.

The family owned and operated company, which has been providing hire equipment such as kayaks and stand up paddle boards, along with guided snorkel tours and beach drop offs, have been successfully operating for the past four months.

With 10 years of PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified experience behind them, divers and founders of Great Keppel Island Watersports & Activities, and passionate locals, Sam and Lyndsay Appleton are proud to return to Keppel Bay from Far North Queensland to offer this exhilarating tourism product, which will showcase one of the premier scuba diving destinations around the world.

“There is nothing on earth quite like the experience of diving on the Great Barrier Reef. It is one of the finest and most exotic scuba diving spots in the world and the Keppel reef is one of the most pristine and underrated areas, featuring some of the healthiest coral I’ve seen in 14 years working on the Great Barrier Reef,” said Mrs Appleton.

“Diving through spectacular coral formations while dodging inquisitive sea turtles, reef sharks, and a wide variety of colourful fish is something that every local and visitor to our beautiful reef should have the chance to experience.”

Whether you are an experienced certified diver or complete novice wanting to learn, Keppel Dive will be able to offer you a safe adventure that will suit your abilities and needs.

“We will be providing Introductory Diving experiences requiring no prior experience, along with Open Water and Advanced Dive Courses, as well as single or double Certified Dives,” shared Mrs Appleton.

“On board our new vessel Adventurer 1, we are also pleased to offer diving experiences to school groups as a part of their curriculum.”

In addition, Keppel Dive will be offering dive equipment hire and tank fill services for those certified and going it alone from their base hut at the entrance to Great Keppel Island Hideaway on Great Keppel Island.

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll believes that this new experience will be an incredible drawcard for our destination.

“Whilst our stunning Southern Great Barrier Reef has always been accessible for snorkellers, diving is a highly sought-after tourism activity,” said Ms Carroll.

“To now be able to offer a diving experience in addition to snorkelling, water sports and coral viewing, expands our product offerings for locals and visitors alike.”

“We have welcomed experienced divers from overseas and nationally, along with our local coral reef scientist Dr Alison Jones, who say that the soft and hard coral from around the Keppel’s is some of the best in the world.”

Great Keppel Island Watersports & Activities/Keppel Dive is encouraging all locals to get on board and put a dive certificate on their bucket lists.

“The minimum age to get scuba certified is 10 years old, so why not discover the pure magic of diving as a whole family,” said Mrs Appleton.

Keppel Dive is an authorised PADI Dive Resort and is open seven days between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Bookings are essential so visit www.greatkeppelwatersports.com.au or contact Sam and Lyndsay on 0439 797 733 to discuss your scuba expedition today.
