Fitzroy Basin Water Plan consultation

The Queensland Government wants to maximise the benefits of the Rookwood Weir project by bringing this new infrastructure into the region’s water planning framework.

On 29 April 2020, the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy released the notice of proposal to amend the Water Plan (Fitzroy Basin) 2011.

The water plan is being amended to incorporate the management and operation of the Rookwood Weir, which is being constructed on the lower Fitzroy River, approximately 60 kilometres west of Rockhampton. The weir will help drive economic and employment opportunities for the region and underpin urban and industrial water security for Rockhampton, the Capricorn Coast and Gladstone.

The notice to amend is supported by a Statement of proposals that outlines the options proposed for consideration by the community.

Submissions from the community and interested groups are now being sought on the Statement of proposals. The submission period closes at 5pm on 12 June 2020. Information about how to make a submission is provided in the Statement of proposals document, available on the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy website at www.dnrme.qld.gov.au.

Your input is essential to ensure the water associated with the weir supports local agriculture and urban needs into the future.
