First year of the Regional Medical Pathway comes to an end

The Regional Medical Pathway (RMP) is a powerful and unique partnership between CQUniversity Australia, The University of Queensland, Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service and Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service, delivering end-to-end medical education and training in our regions.

With the 2022 academic year now finished, Associate Professor Sonia Saluja has reflected on the achievements of the first cohort of RMP students. “The transition from high school to university is huge, and it’s been wonderful to see them successfully navigating university life and supporting each other along the way,” she said.

CQUniversity Lecturer Dr Anna Balzer agreed, noting the students have become active members of the university and RMP community. “Between classes and fiercely contended pool or table tennis games, the students have always made time to help with CQU events, and to help each other,” she said. “The most valuable thing I have seen is the sense of camaraderie they have developed both inside and outside the university environment”.

True to the RMP values, the first cohort are excited to meet and support next years’ students. They have also formed the Central Queensland University Medical Society (CQUMS) which aims to provide support to and connect CQU students wishing to enter medicine in the future.
