Local tourism and information hub welcomes thousands through its doors in 2024

While just under 2% of the destination’s total number of visitors call into the Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre (VIC) in Yeppoon, the service provided to 17,537 visitors, seven days a week, is a critical indicator of the region’s thriving tourism industry.

Of these 17,537 visitors to the VIC, 92% (16,156) were Australian travellers, and 8% (1,428) came from international destinations, underscoring both the global and domestic appeal of the Capricorn Coast as a prime location for leisure and connection.

Most visitors to the Information Centre are holiday makers or those visiting friends and relatives.

Queenslanders led the domestic travel cohort, comprising 36% (6,298) of total visitors, followed by 16% (2,739) from New South Wales, 14% (2,452) from Victoria, and the rest (34%) from all other States in Australia including WA, SA, NT, ACT and Tasmania.

The Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre attracted a diverse demographic, with visitors aged 36 to 65 making up the largest segment at 40%, followed by 37% under 35, and 23% aged 66 and above.

Internationally, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands emerged as the top source markets for overseas visitors, which reflects our official international visitor survey statistics provided by Tourism Australia.

Mary Carroll, CEO of Capricorn Enterprise, commended the Centre’s team of 35 dedicated volunteers and their Visitor Centre Supervisor for their exceptional service.

Our Visitor Information Centre is an important hub for walk-ins as well as responding to phone and email enquiries, from destination information to retail queries including pets, cars, medical and more,” Mary said.
