New Walking Trail Signage Unveiled on Great Keppel (Woppa) Island

Just in time for the recent summer holidays, 51 double-sided wayfinding and interpretive signs have been installed across five of Great Keppel Island’s main walking trails, helping visitors explore the island with confidence while learning more about its natural and cultural stories.

The new signage spans:

  • Lighthouse Trail (including the first lookout and homestead)
  • Leekes Beach Trail
  • Monkey Point Trail (serving Long, Shelvey and Monkey Beaches)
  • Mount Wyndham Trail
  • Svendsen Beach Trail

Delivered by Livingstone Shire Council on behalf of the Queensland Government, the wayfinding and interpretive signage forms part of a broader suite of island upgrades. These include the Sewerage Treatment Plant, Arrivals Plaza, and new boardwalks—all within the $25 million Queensland Government commitment to Great Keppel Island, first announced in 2017.

Designed by DotDash, fabricated by Danthonia Designs, and installed by Trailworx, the signage has been created using environmentally conscious materials and meets universal accessibility design standards, ensuring a welcoming experience for all visitors.

This project is another step forward in enhancing visitor experiences on Great Keppel (Woppa) Island—making it easier, safer and more engaging to discover the island’s iconic landscapes, beaches and viewpoints.
