Capricorn Film Festival returns in 2026 – celebrating a decade of storytelling on the Capricorn Coast

The Capricorn Coast is set to shine once again as the Capricorn Film Festival returns from 15-18 January 2026, bringing an inspiring mix of films, workshops, and creative events to Yeppoon.

Following the success of the 2025 edition at Yeppoon Town Hall, the festival continues to cement its place as one of regional Queensland’s most vibrant cultural events.

Founded in 2015 to give regional storytellers a platform, the festival has grown from a small grassroots initiative into a respected event attracting filmmakers, mentors, and audiences from across Australia.

Over the past decade, it has built a strong reputation for showcasing emerging talent, delivering industry-level workshops, supporting young creatives, and screening bold cinema that reflects both global ideas and local stories.

Festival Founder and Director Luke Graham said the 2026 program marks another exciting chapter.

“What began as a small grassroots event has grown into a platform that empowers filmmakers, nurtures young talent, and brings our community together through film,” Luke said.

“Every year we see new voices and collaborations emerge — and that’s what keeps us passionate about delivering this festival for our region.”

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said the festival plays an important role in enriching the region’s creative identity.

“The Capricorn Film Festival has become one of Central Queensland’s most inspiring cultural events, shining a spotlight on local talent while bringing world-class cinema to our doorstep,” Mary said.

“It offers genuine opportunities for the community and local businesses to come together and celebrate the power of storytelling.”

Audiences can expect a diverse program of Australian and international films, thought-provoking documentaries, local stories, and opportunities to learn directly from industry professionals through panels, workshops, and networking sessions — all delivered in a welcoming, community-focused environment.

The 2026 Festival also invites local businesses to get involved through the Screening Partner Opportunity, allowing organisations to present a feature film or documentary aligned with their values. Partners receive strong brand visibility, the chance to introduce a film and lead the post-screening Q&A, VIP passes, discounted tickets for their networks, and inclusion across festival marketing and onsite branding.

The Capricorn Film Festival continues to celebrate creativity, champion new talent, and deliver unforgettable experiences from the heart of the Capricorn Coast.
