2015 JRT / Tropical Auto Group Southern Great Barrier Reef Golf Championship

Yeppoon Golf Club is in preparation mode to ensure the popular Capricorn Coast golf course is in pristine condition for the upcoming JRT / Tropical Auto Group Southern Great Barrier Reef Golf Championship.
In the tournaments inaugural year, the event has attracted the support from many local businesses and corporates’ and promises to deliver a fun filled week of tournament golf, social events and corporate networking.
Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said “The tournament with its five days of festivities is a major event for our region and I commend the Livingstone Shire Council, TAG and JRT and the other sponsors for jumping on board to ensure this tournament will be a great success.”.
The schedule commences proceedings with a sponsor’s golf day on Tuesday before the four round tournament kicks off from 6:45 on Wednesday. St George Bank will host a Sponsors Evening in the impressive new Ocean View Room at The Strand Hotel on Thursday evening where Richard Champion will MC and entertain the guests.
Over 70 leading PGA professionals from across Australia and Asia will battle it out over four days to share in the prize purse of $55,000. Notable professionals include Australasian PGA Tour Winners – Steve Jeffress, Aaron Townsend, Gareth Paddison and Michael Wright. As well as Mitchell Brown who leads the PGA National Rankings.
Len Harper (Tropical Auto Group) and Jason Thomasson (JRT) are the Principal Sponsors for the tournament. “These guys are the life behind the event, without their generous support and commitment this event would not have attracted the quality professionals and recognition that it has throughout our region plus the golfing fraternity across Australia. These businesses along with several others involved with the tournament, consistently support their community, we are very fortunate to have such passionate and dedicated business persons in our community” says Yeppoon Golf Club Professional, Graham Sheppard.
Other major sponsors and supporters include St George Bank, Stage & Audio, WIN News, Sea FM, Champ Resources and Coal Train, who will host a Ladies Luncheon as part of the tournament on Friday July 31 in the Stage & Audio Marquee at the Yeppoon Golf Club.
“It really is shaping up to be a fantastic event, our greens staff have done a fantastic job recovering our course from the onslaught of TC Marcia in February. The course was presented in excellent condition back in May for The Pines – Capricorn Coast Invitational and professionals left that tournament mentioning our greens are the best in Qld, I believe they are possibly even better now, Trevor Tougher and his team should be commended” says Sheppard.
The tournament begins on Wednesday July 29 and concludes on Saturday August 1. Spectators are welcome to come and see the professionals and amateurs in action.
