MEDIA RELEASE: Livingstone Shire’s (Capricorn Coast) Growing Population
The Livingstone Shire Council’s estimated resident population reached 37,455 people at 30 June 2016, increasing by 454 people or 1.2% since 30 June 2015. This overall growth rate was slower than the Queensland rate of 1.4% Queensland’s population grew by 64,659 people to 4,843,303 people.
Population numbers increased across the Shire (excepting Shoalwater Bay), with the largest increase occurring in Yeppoon (219 people) and the highest growth rate occurring in Emu Park (2.4%), a faster rate than across Queensland.
Capricorn Enterprise CEQ, Mary Carroll, stated “The Capricorn Coast and its surrounding areas have continued to grow which shows how much residents value the towns, beaches, amenities and easy lifestyle. Continued population growth for the region will contribute to increasing business confidence.”
“The number of major public infrastructure and commercial projects, including the Foreshore revitalisation, Panorama Drive, the Gateway and the Homemaker Centre underway all bode well for jobs and population growth,” she said.
