MAJOR VISITOR INCREASE TO YEPPOON VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE!

A massive 16% increase in visitors through the doors of the Yeppoon Visitor Information Centre (VIC) in January this year reflected a bumper summer holiday season which kick started 2018 and has continued during the first quarter of the year.

Capricorn Enterprise chief executive Mary Carroll said “we received extremely positive reports from our tourism operators during the summer school holidays, with some reporting increases of up to 40% from the previous year, so this major increase through our visitor information centre reflects that growth.”

“What is a welcome surprise however, is the fact that a quarter (25%) of visitors through the doors were from our international source markets.  We have been working extremely hard over a number of years to increase our international visitor numbers to our destination and we are seeing annual positive growth” she said.

1019 visitors to the Yeppoon Visitor Information Centre during January 2018 was up 16% from the previous January which saw 879 visitors through the doors in 2017.

Of the 1019 visitors, 763 were domestic and 256 were international. This is an average of 33 visitors per day, greeted and assisted by wonderful volunteer staff and supported by Visitor Information Centre Supervisor Leanne Smith.

Ms Carroll said “our highest percentage of international visitors were from Germany (7.6%), followed by UK (4.3%), Switzerland (3.1%) and US/Canada (2.8%) of total visitors, which directly reflects the efforts we have been putting into our western markets via self drive itineraries, tourism trade distribution, sales presentations and hosting of key influencers.”

“Sixty percent of total visitors to our centre over the summer holidays were from within Queensland which reflects our strong market within the 400km radius, followed by 8% from NSW and 4% from Victoria” she said.

 January 2018 Age brackets: 66+  104 (10.2%), 51-65yrs  188 (18.4%), 36-50yrs 298 (29.1%), 18-35yrs  253 (24.7%), 0 – 17yrs  176 (17.2%).

“We regularly receive very positive comments about our extremely helpful volunteers who assisted 14,000 visitors to our Accredited Yeppoon Visitor Information during 2017” she said.
