Weekend Notes visits Capricorn

This week, Capricorn Enterprise had the pleasure of hosting travel writer Nadine Cresswell-Myatt from on-line travel site Weekend Notes.

Based in Melbourne, Nadine was planning a trip to Longreach and Fraser Island, but when she read our media release and saw images of the brand new Yeppoon Lagoon on TravMedia, she reached out to include three nights and two full days in our region.

Nadine’s last visit to Rockhampton was twenty years ago and she had never visited the Capricorn Coast, so she was keen to learn about all the ‘new’ additions in our area and has left feeling absolutely inspired by our destination!

Arriving on Sunday evening via bus from Longreach to Rocky, we caught a magnificent sunset overlooking the city from the Nurim Walk at Mount Archer National Park, after which followed her hosted accommodation at Empire Apartment Hotel and dinner at The Boathouse in the riverfront precinct.

On Monday, Nadine was inspired by the Capricorn Caves, The Waterline Restaurant, Yeppoon Lagoon, Wreck Point Lookout, Emu Park’s ANZAC Memorial Walk, Pigglettoes Providore & Monkey Pig Brewery.  She enjoyed a hosted dinner at Vue Wine Bar & Restaurant and hosted accommodation at Salt Yeppoon.

On Tuesday, after hosted breakfast at Whisk Café, Freedom Fastcats Whale watching tour thrilled guests with a mother and calf frolicking close to the boat in Keppel Bay.  Then a trip to Byfield which included lunch at the Byfield store, a walk through the rainforest and a quick site inspection at Ferns Hideaway and a visit to the Rasberry Creek Homestead showcased just how incredibly diverse our region is in such a short drive between locations.  There is never enough time to show our media friends all of the wonderful products in our destination, but we certainly utilize the time in the car to talk about them whilst we drive with running commentary.  A quick visit to the Great Western Hotel to prove that ‘yep live bullrides really do happen here!’, was followed by Nadine’s last night hosted by the Quality Regent Hotel in Rocky before departing early on the train south the next morning.

We can’t wait to read Nadine’s story in a few weeks time and we certainly look forward to her return visit to show her even more of our destination!
