David Brown, Senior Project Delivery Manager, Goldwind Australia (Clarke Creek Wind Project)

As part of the 2019 Capricorn Enterprise Major Projects Forum, we were privileged to welcome David Brown, Senior Project Delivery Manager from Goldwind Australia to speak on the Clarke Creek Wind Project.
David has over 20 years’ experience in Project Management, predominately in the Power Generation Industry working with Major EPC/OEM’s with Raytheon, Washington Group, GE Energy in The Middle East delivering large Combined Cycle Power Projects. David moved to Australia for the start of the GE Renewables drive, successfully delivering Wind Farm projects in Australia, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. David has also worked with Nexif Energy at the FEED end of projects through to financial close then on to full execution. Prior to this, David kicked off his professional career in the Oil and Gas Industry in and around the UK for the best part of 10 years.
David presented an brief history of Goldwind Australia, their capabilities, operations and current construction projects before providing more detail in relation to the Clarke Creek Wind Farm:
- Largest wind project in the Southern Hemisphere
- Project is approximately 170km north of Rockhampton;
- Wind and Solar Farm are separate projects;
- Up to 195 wind turbines located on the Broadsound Range (length ~ 55 km);
- Total project investment ~$1.5 Billion;
- Powering 600,000 Queensland homes, around 4% of Queensland Electricity.
David shared that an estimated 300 to 350 jobs would be needed during construction over approximately three years while 20 full time jobs will be required during operations.
Local industry were advised that the ICN registration of interested contractors is now open and the Complete Wind Turbine & Balance of Plant Tenders are due early 2020.
An overview of construction management including balance of plant (civil – earthworks, foundations, electrical) and logistics/installation/commissioning was given.
