Martin MacDonald, Senior Project Manager and Managing Contractor’s Representative, FKG Group

As part of the 2019 Capricorn Enterprise Major Projects Forum, we were privileged to welcome Martin MacDonald, Senior Project Manager and Managing Contractor’s Representative from FKG Group.

Martin joined the FKG Group in 2016 and is responsible for leading the Downer & FKG JV for the planning and delivery of the Shoalwater Bay Training Area Remediation Project. With 17 years in the construction industry working across QLD, NSW and the ACT, he is a proven construction professional who provides extensive experience in delivering regional infrastructure projects for the Department of Defence.

Martin provided an overarching project summary which detailed purpose, value, duration, scope and current status. The scope of the project includes:

  • Remediation of selected facilities and infrastructure
  • Improvement of environmental sustainability
  • Introduction of new capabilities to the Australian Defence Force

One of the highlights of the presentation was in relation to the Dingo Drive and Freshwater Beach Landing Site Remediation, whereby Martin outlined the issues and concerns limiting works due to environmental impact on sensitive areas.

With four out of five design milestone complete, the delivery phase approval is due December 2019. As part of the procurement process, preparations are currently being made to approach the market.

The local industry engagement target of 80% means local businesses and industry within the 300-kilometre radius will have preference if they fulfil the requirements.
