5 ways to celebrate a socially distant Mother’s Day

“The sun will still shine. The flowers will still bloom. Emotion will still be shared. Hope will still prevail, and love will still conquer.” Although the coronavirus pandemic has thrown some logistical spanners in the works for 2020, time keeps on ticking and important dates continue fast approaching – including the day we acknowledge our precious birth givers.

Even though this year may not be as traditional as previous years, Mother’s Day has and will always be a cause for grand celebration. But how do you show mum just how much she is loved when the world looks a little different?

With the Queensland Premier recently easing some restrictions for our State, we have put together five simple ideas to show appreciation, love and honour to the reason for your existence…

Pay now, stay later
If Corona has taught us anything, it’s that material things are secondary to spending time with and making memories with loved ones. This Mother’s Day give the gift of experience! Purchase an accommodation gift voucher for a Capricorn Coast weekend away or surprise mum with a tour or attraction voucher. Not only are you giving her a gift she’ll love, but you are also supporting our local businesses during their toughest times.

Breakfast in bed
This year, we can all celebrate… because so many of our favourite restaurants are continuing to provide pick-up or delivery, meaning that we can spoil the Queen and not have to cook! Send dad out to grab breaky from Keppel Bay Sailing Club’s Beach Café or have the bacon and eggs delivered by mum’s favourite restaurant. Keep an eye on the Support Local Buy Local Facebook page for some awesome deals on pick-up and delivery from our local restaurants.

Get outdoors and enjoy a walk or bike ride
The walking options are endless in our beautiful destination so why not throw on your sneakers and explore the Pineapple Rail Trail, Capricorn Coast Shared Pathway, Bluff Point Circuit or Double Head Track. This Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to spend your day to bond with not only mum, but our region’s most inspiring landscapes.

Explore your nearby national park
Re-connect and re-discover the pristine beauty of Byfield. The ease in State restrictions now enable us to fill our days with adventure at our neighbouring national parks. Take mum out for a day in the rainforest.

Take a picnic to a favourite lookout
Your mum will be on top of the world enjoying a picnic surrounded by her loved ones at Cooee Bay’s Wreck Point or Emu Park’s Singing Ship. Or dust off the dingy and take a short trip from your home in Yeppoon to the blissful surroundings of the Keppel Islands. Our destination is sprinkled with outstanding lookouts that team perfectly with a cheese platter made with love or purchased from your favourite local hamper provider.

Remember, no matter what you decide to do for mum on her special day, what she, mum, wants above all is for her children to look after themselves and each other.
