Aviation jobs boost for Rockhampton

The Australian Government has committed $25 million in funding to help Alliance Airlines bring a maintenance and repair facility to Rockhampton. The new facility, which has the potential to create 225 jobs and inject $30 million into the local economy each year, will signify the largest hanger in regional Australia.
Capricorn Enterprise welcomes the announcement made by Deputy Prime Minister, The Hon Michael McCormack last week and is grateful for Government’s ongoing support for the region.
Capricorn Enterprise CEO, Mary Carroll said, “Airport infrastructure has remained a big ticket item on our list of major regional projects for many years, so it is wonderful to see this project set to commence construction in September this year.”
“We encourage the Australian Government to keep the proposed $54 million for an Airstrip at Great Keppel Island on their radars, once the State government finalise an infrastructure agreement and transfer the leases to the proponent Altum,” Mary said.
“While the $30 million already committed at a State level towards common use infrastructure for the island which includes breakwall, barge ramp, jetty/marina and visitor facilities needs to be advanced as a matter of priority, we hope that funding for the airstrip will soon be available as further discussions progress with Altum Property Group and all levels of Government.”
