The region’s premier awards event highlights the achievements and capability of our businesses and their people.
Promoting our dynamic and robust local businesses and people, the 2023 Best in Business Awards will bring together our industry leaders to celebrate and acknowledge excellence and exceptional achievements.
With nine categories spanning from micro businesses through to large enterprises, the Awards acknowledges all businesses across a range of industries. The Awards night also features individual employee awards and new award categories this year include: Best Sustainable Business, Best Owner/Manager and Best Local Buy.
In 2022 over 250 business and industry owners, managers and employees joined us for a night to celebrate our local businesses that continue to thrive, and the people who make our destination unique.
Award Nominations
We welcome nominations from eligible regional businesses in one or more of the categories outlined below. Please note that in order to nominate, your business needed to be registered within the Local Government Areas of Rockhampton Regional Council or Livingstone Shire Council.
As leaders in regional business and industry engagement, Capricorn Enterprise and Capricornia Chamber of Commerce developed the awards process as an apolitical, business-focussed event, independently judged by a panel of six industry experts.

| Best New Business | Any | This award recognises the best new business that commenced operation in the past financial year (July 2022 – June 2023). |  |
| Best Small Business | 1 to 10 employees | This award recognises a small business demonstrating outstanding achievements in business planning, marketing and delivery of products and/or services. Examples include sole traders, micro businesses, trades and professional services. | |
| Best Community Enterprise | Any | This award recognises an organisation whose mission seeks to benefit our region and is driven by a public or community cause. Income is mostly derived through their day-to-day trading with at least 50% of profits dedicated/invested to their cause. | |
| Best Large & Medium Business | 11+ Employees | This award recognises a medium or large business demonstrating outstanding achievements in business planning, marketing and delivery of products and/or services. | |
| Best Sustainable Business | Any | This award recognises a business or organisation that demonstrates superior sustainability outcomes in their business operations. | |
| Best Employee as nominated by an Employer | Any | This award recognises an individual employee who has demonstrated a high level of understanding and delivery of the employing business’s values and business direction. | |
| Best Apprentice or Trainee as nominated by an Employer | Any | This award recognises an apprentice or trainee employee who has demonstrated a high level of understanding and delivery of the employing business’s values and business direction commensurate with their role and time in the business. | |
| Best Business Manager or Owner | Any | This award recognises a business manager or owner who has demonstrated superior management and leadership skills that have contributed to the success of the business. | |
| People’s Choice | Any | An open award given to the business with the greatest number of votes from the general public. | |

The Awards Night
Join us on Saturday 2nd December, under the stars at Keppel Bay Marina for a Gala night of celebration and entertainment.
The awards night will feature canapes, main meal and dessert with beverage package included, and entertainment by local musicians, Kate Mahood and rockers MATH (Maddi and the Hoopers).
Dress Code: Formal. Pre-dinner drinks from 6pm.
