Exploring the Diversity of Agritourism at Livingstone Shire Agritourism Field Day

Ever been curious to learn about options to increase your revenue streams, diversify and innovate your farm business?

All farmers, producers and rural landowners in the Livingstone Shire are invited to attend the Exploring the Diversity of Agritourism Field Day to learn more about ways to innovate or diversify their farms and/or add value to their produce.

The Livingstone Shire Agritourism Field Daywill be held on Tuesday, 12 September, where farmers and ag entrepreneurs will learn about opportunities both on-farm and beyond the farm gate. Topics will include:

  1. exploring options for leveraging farm assets and/or current production
  2. investigating ideas for diversification or value adding
  3. developing new pathways to market
  4. potential for tapping into the visitor economy.

Livingstone Shire Council believes the region has enormous potential to build on its strengths and develop an exciting agri-food/tourism economy.

Field Day participants will also be able to apply to participate in Regionality’s Agritourism Business Development program, Australia’s most successful and longest-running farm-based business development program.  This program has helped hundreds of farmers to investigate possibilities to diversify or innovate their existing farm business, exploring alternative or additional income streams, creating new pathways to market or succession planning opportunities to keep family members on the land.

“The future forecast for Livingstone Shire’s economic growth indicates that it will be, in part strengthened by investment and employment in such industries as Agri-business and the tourist economy,” Mayor Ireland said.

“Our region has the soils and climate to produce a wide range of food products and it is through this program that untapped, or value-added markets may be identified.  An increase in the diversity of locally supplied food shortens supply chains, reduces food miles and transport costs and builds local food security, fostering resilience during disaster and other impactable events.

“I look forward to seeing and hearing about the emerging Agri-tourism ventures that will be developed from this program.”

“There are many opportunities for farmers in this region to create high-value agricultural and food products. Every farm and every farmer present different opportunities for innovation or diversification. Our focus is making sure we test the viability, feasibility, and desirability of the concept to ensure it returns an investment for the farm, the family and the customer,” Managing Director of Regionality Rose Wright said.

“This program provides farmers with the support to explore ideas, gain new knowledge and investigate options to move from price taker to price maker by creating new pathways to market and the consumer.

“There are so many options and alternatives, the Program will help the region and individual farmers to innovate and become more resilient in an ever-changing world.”
