Mount Morgan Wattle Day 2023

Mount Morgan Wattle Day is set to bloom on Saturday, 2 September 2023 at the historic Mount Morgan Railway Station for the Mount Morgan Wattle Day Festival and celebration of 125 years since the Mount Morgan Railway first opened.

Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc [MMPAD], has a free, fun-filled family day which is ideal for everyone.

The day gets underway at 9.30 am with the official opening, flowing on to the live entertainment under the Federation Fig Trees until finish at 2.30pm

Headlining this year’s entertainment is the Brittany Elise Band. With numerous accolades under her belt – including an invitation to write, record and perform in Nashville, Tennessee, Brittany is quickly making her mark on the international music scene with her electric performances, powerhouse vocals and thirst for creativity.

Rockhampton singer-songwriter, Denvah will add to the entertainment as will John Batley and Family, Amanda and Alisha Sealey, the Sabaya Belly Dancers and the crew from the Blue Eagle Production of Koch and Boules, Clint Lennox and Jodie van de Wetering will be around to provide some comic relief!

As a special treat this year Festival patrons will have the opportunity to participate in one of the workshops on offer. These include Indigenous Art workshops with Faylyn Lamb, Potter and Mosaic Workshops with Louise Jones, Circus Workshops with Meraki Circus, painting workshops with Nancy Liddle and bush survival and fibre-making workshops with Rocky Instincts.

These workshops have been made possible by funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund. The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Rockhampton Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

There will also be free amusement rides for the kids as well as face painting and balloon twisting.

As at past events, the Golden Mount Nursery will supply Mount Morgan Wattle seedlings as a free give-away to Festival goers.

MMPAD President, John Steinberger said there would also be market stalls and much more.

“MMPAD has been organising this Wattle Day annual event since 2012.

“Some seating will be available and room for viewing from under the trees and which will add a shady cool green delight to our festival. Bring a fold up chair or a picnic rug.

“Wattle Day is a wonderful way in which Central Queensland residents can celebrate Mount Morgan’s very own wattle,

This is a great opportunity for the whole community to come together. Everyone is welcome to join in.

“Most of everything at the event is free including admission into the festival.

“Of course, items at stalls, Devonshire Teas and light refreshments will need to be purchased. Entry fees into our great Railway Museum and platform area also apply,” he said.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have the support of some very good artists as well the Golden Mount Nursery,” he said.

The Mount Morgan Wattle Day Festival also received some funding to assist with costs from Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Assistance Program
