Engaging Science Grants now open

The Department of Environment and Science is offering grants of up to $20,000 to expand the capacity and reach of environmental and conservation research, in alignment with the Ecotourism Plan for Queensland’s Protected Areas 2023–2028 (PDF, 1.4MB). These grants will offer tourism operators the opportunity to identify and incorporate regenerative tourism and citizen science for visitors to our protected areas.

Tourism operators are encouraged to put forward projects that involve guests and/or staff in activities that have positive benefits for the environment, First Nations peoples and communities.

Projects that encourage citizen science participation in research that contributes to conservation and/or threatened species recovery on the protected area estate will also be highly regarded.

The number of ecotourism citizen science grants awarded will depend on the number and quality of applications received.

The types of activities eligible for funding include, but are not limited to:

  • events, activities or projects that contribute to meaningful research for Queensland’s terrestrial and marine parks

·         threatened species data collection including video/audio recordings

·         analysing previously collected data

·         enhancement of existing citizen science projects

  • activities where participants use enhanced or new technology, or training resources that you have created.

Before you apply, please check eligibility and guidelines and visit frequently asked questions for further information.
