Capricorn Coast operators receiving a funding boost

Congratulations to five (5) of our Capricorn Coast operators (total 82 applicants shared $1.15M across 13 tourism regions in Qld) which received funding via the Boosting Accessible Tourism Experience Grant program, thanks to the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport (DTIS).

  • Capricorn Caves – Development of a virtual reality experience
  • Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary – Wheelchair accessible pathway and ramping
  • Funtastic Cruises – Accessibility improvements to tourism vessels; including: new ramp, improved handrails, improved anti-slip paint and water inflatable supports
  • Hedlow Retreat – Construction of accessible paths around accommodation/evsnts marquee and keyless entry for rooms
  • The Salty Lime Co. – concrete footpaths for wheelchair access

Unfortunately, only five (5) operators in the state received part of the $15 Million for Round 1 of the Growing Future Tourism program (DTIS).  The recipients are Australia Zoo, Raptis, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, Lindeman Island Resort and Townsville’s Flinders Street Wharves.  Hopefully our operators who applied under Round 1 (High Valley Dawn, GKI Hideaway, Salty Lime Co, Capricorn Caves) will apply when Round 2 is announced for another chance at enhancing their products.

Six (6) tourism operators (out of 154 in the state) were also successful in receiving the $5,000 Access Starter Grant (DTIS) to amplify accessible tourism in this second “Year of Accessibility”.
