Rockhampton Railyards Rejuvenation – Have your say

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is rejuvenating the Rockhampton Railyards. TMR has developed a Draft Master Plan for the site’s Heritage Precinct. The Draft Master Plan presents a concept design to open up the historic Roundhouse for community and recreational use — a first in the site’s 100-year history.

Have your say on the Draft Master Plan

You are invited to view the Draft Master Plan and have your say on the future community use of the precinct. We are seeking feedback on the following:

  • the overall Draft Master Plan, including the proposed spaces within the Roundhouse
  • the proposed staged activation of the precinct (stages 1 to 4)
  • your stories or memories of the Roundhouse and history of the Railyards.

Consultation closes 5pm, Friday 23 February 2024.

About the project

The Queensland Government has purchased the historic Rockhampton Railyards. The site totals 19 hectares and is made up of a Heritage Precinct and an Industrial Precinct.

The Industrial Precinct is focused on commercial use and will provide major supply chain opportunities for a broad range of industries including rail, manufacturing and maintenance.

Within the Heritage Precinct, TMR has developed a Draft Master Plan to identify potential community uses and light commercial opportunities, and present a staged activation approach for the precinct. The plan proposes to celebrate and preserve the rich rail history of the site, including the former Roundhouse.
