Having a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is one of the simplest — and most powerful — ways to make sure your tourism business is seen by potential visitors.
When travellers search for experiences, accommodation, or dining in our region, Google Maps and Google Search are often their first stop. A verified listing helps your business appear in those results, showing essential information like your location, contact details, operating hours, reviews, and photos — all at a glance.
In addition to the exposure benefits, maintaining a current Google Business Profile is worth 10 points towards your Best of Queensland (BOQ) score. To receive these points, you’ll need to include your Google Business Profile URL in your Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) listing.
How to Claim or Verify Your Google Business Profile
- Go to https://www.google.com/business/
- Sign in with your business Google account (or create one if needed).
- Search for your business to see if a profile already exists.
- If your business appears, click “Claim this business” and follow the verification prompts (usually via email, phone, or postcard).
- If it doesn’t appear, select “Add your business to Google” and enter your details.
- Once verified, keep your information up to date — including opening hours, website links, photos, and posts to engage potential visitors.
- Finally, copy your Google Business Profile URL and paste it into your ATDW listing under your contact or social links section to secure those valuable BOQ points.
A strong, active Google presence not only improves your Best of Queensland performance but also builds trust with travellers — helping them find you faster and book with confidence.
