A major milestone in reef conservation has unfolded on the Capricorn Coast, with the Keppel Islands hosting the largest reef restoration field deployment AIMS has ever undertaken — and one of the biggest in Australian history.
Over the past month, Keppel Dive & Water Sports, supported by Funtastic vessels and crew, played a pivotal role by coordinating logistics, providing vessels, sharing local knowledge and helping deliver every on-water component of the program.
The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) worked alongside 20 Indigenous rangers from six Traditional Owner groups, training in cutting-edge coral restoration techniques developed through the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP).
Together, they collected coral spawn, nurtured larvae and deployed millions of young corals back onto Woppaburra Sea Country to help reefs recover from the 2024 mass bleaching event.
Thanks to the commitment of local operators — especially Keppel Dive & Water Sports — the spotlight is now firmly on the Capricorn Coast as a leader in reef restoration and conservation.
