Southern Great Barrier Reef at Global Dive Show in US

Max Allen Jnr of Freedom Fast Cats is currently in the United States, having proudly represented the Southern Great Barrier Reef at the international DEMA (Diving Equipment & Marketing Association) Show in Orlando, Florida, from 11–14 November 2025.

Joined by fellow Master Reef Guide Elliott Peters, based on Heron Island, the pair have showcased our destinations world-class dive offerings with niche inbound tour operator Diveplanit Travel, in partnership with Tourism & Events Queensland (TEQ). Their presence follows on from Diveplanit owner Deb Dickson-Smith’s recent famil through the Southern Great Barrier Reef, continuing the momentum to grow international interest in our diverse marine experiences.

DEMA is the world’s largest trade-only event for diving, travel and water sports professionals, attracting thousands of delegates and hundreds of exhibitors from across the globe. The event provides a powerful platform for operators to build new trade relationships, tap into emerging dive markets, and position the Southern Great Barrier Reef as a must-visit destination.

Also representing the region was Dive Spear and Sport 1770, with owner Carmen Bolten and marketing manager Jess Cooke hosting their own stand to promote their unique blend of spearfishing, scuba and marine adventure tourism — adding further strength to our regional presence at the show.

Following the main event, Max extended his trip to explore some of the dive experiences on offer in the U.S., including an eco-tour with American Pro Diving Center to swim with manatees — an experience that adds further inspiration and perspective for enhancing visitor experiences back home.

Participation in international events like DEMA plays a vital role in building global visibility for our region, supporting long-term tourism growth, and attracting high-yield visitors seeking authentic, nature-based experiences along the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
