Get Involved in National Science Week 2026

National Science Week (15–23 August 2026) presents a unique opportunity for tourism operators, event organisers, community groups and businesses across the Capricorn Coast region to showcase the science stories that make the region special.

As Australia’s largest annual celebration of science, National Science Week attracts millions of participants through thousands of events nationwide. From marine and environmental experiences to astronomy, conservation, agriculture, Indigenous knowledge and wildlife encounters, many existing tourism and community activities already have a science connection.

Businesses and organisations planning events in August are encouraged to register them as National Science Week events to benefit from national promotion and increased visibility. Those not hosting events can still get involved by highlighting local science-themed experiences and attractions through newsletters, websites, social media and visitor information channels.

Past National Science Week activities around Australia have included coral gardening, koala monitoring, dark sky experiences, whale shark spotting, citizen science projects and hands-on museum events. New events are being added daily to the National Science Week program.

National Science Week is supported by the Australian Government, CSIRO, the Australian Science Teachers Association and the ABC. It provides an excellent platform to attract visitors, engage local communities and celebrate the role science plays in our everyday lives.
