A few of our Capricorn Coast Visitor Centre volunteers were recently invited to experience one of Keppel Konnections’ first whale watching cruises departing from Yeppoon.
While the whales decided to keep a low profile on the day, the team still enjoyed a fantastic day out on Keppel Bay, taking in the beautiful coastal scenery, spending time on Great Keppel Island and enjoying a lovely lunch as part of the experience.
The new seasonal cruise departs from the Keppel Konnections office at the Red Jetty, Keppel Bay Marina, giving guests the chance to spot majestic humpback whales as they pass through the waters of Keppel Bay.
Cruises operate three times a week throughout August and September, departing at 11am every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Guests are asked to check in 30 minutes prior to departure.
Great Keppel Island guests can also join the experience by taking the 10am service from the island to Keppel Bay Marina, before returning to the island at approximately 1.30pm.
A light lunch is included, with a choice of poke bowl or wrap, along with fruit and a muffin or cookie. Drinks are also available to purchase on board.
Of course, wildlife encounters are always on nature’s terms, so whale sightings cannot be guaranteed, but with beautiful Keppel Bay scenery, an island stop and a relaxing few hours on the water, there is plenty to enjoy along the way.
It’s another great experience for visitors and locals to add to their Capricorn Coast itinerary this whale watching season.
