New roadmap to drive freight, jobs and growth across Queensland

The Queensland Government has launched the Queensland Freight Delivery Plan 2026, setting out a five-year roadmap to improve freight productivity, reliability, safety and connectivity across the State.

With Queensland’s freight task expected to grow by 20 per cent by 2032, the plan outlines 70 actions to strengthen supply chains, improve freight access, reduce bottlenecks and support the continued growth of regional and metropolitan industries.

Key initiatives include the introduction of a Rail Freight Container Incentive Scheme, discounted diesel fuel access charges on the Mount Isa Line, reforms to heavy vehicle access arrangements, improved first and last-mile freight connections, and targeted investment in road, rail and marine freight infrastructure.

The plan recognises the important role freight plays in supporting Queensland’s agriculture, mining, manufacturing, critical minerals, export and regional industries. It aims to provide businesses with greater certainty, improve access to markets and reduce delays and costs across the supply chain.

Developed in consultation with more than 500 industry and government stakeholders, the plan is designed to ensure Queensland’s freight network is prepared for future growth, including population growth, increased agricultural production, expanding critical minerals industries, global trade opportunities and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Queensland Freight Delivery Plan 2026 is expected to support stronger supply chains, regional economic growth, investment and job opportunities while helping ensure Queensland communities and businesses have reliable access to the goods and services they need.
