Singapore Ministerial Visit
Posted on October 11th, 2017
Attending Exercise Wallaby for the first time (now in its 27th year at Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area), Second Minister for Defence Ong Ye Kung (also Minister for Education) not only joined servicemen from the 3rd Guards and Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) helicopter squadrons, but was also very keen to learn about our local area during his visit.
Minister Ong and his wife visited Mount Archer National Park and Capricorn Caves last Saturday and they were extremely impressed with this privately owned natural caves system. On Sunday, thanks to Freedom Fastcats and Barry’s Dive Yeppoon, we hosted a great day out to experience snorkelling and diving on our beautiful part of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, with a delicious lunch at Great Keppel Island Hideaway.
Joining us was Dr Russell Reichelt from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) who was very enthusiastic about the health of our SGBR! Thanks to Cameron Mulville from Qld Parks and Wildlife Service who accompanied Mrs. Ong on a bush walk on the island, and to Woppaburra elder Bob Muir for providing a Welcome to Country and relaying his people’s story to the Minister.
