Defence – ASMTI Contract announced

The announcement made yesterday (Tuesday Sept 25) afternoon by the Assistant Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon David Fawcett of the appointment of Laing O’Rourke as the Managing Contractor for the ADF/SAF $800 Million Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative Facilities Project (ASMTI) is of SPECIAL significance to Capricorn Enterprise, the region’s independent Economic Development Group. Laing O’Rourke is a Gold Member of Capricorn Enterprise and we are proud of the regional collaboration we have established with our partners and affiliates to ensure local business and industry is at the forefront of any opportunities. The ASMTI carries with it an 80% regional industry participation guarantee which means that industry covering a wide range of categories will be invited to participate in a minimum of $640 Million value across the entire Project.
The appointment of Laing O’Rourke as the Managing Contractor for the ASMTI at Shoalwater Bay provides huge opportunity for regionally based industry and associated businesses, enabling new employment opportunities, industry expansion and diversification and investment plus improving business confidence across the broader Central Queensland region.
As the Managing Contractor, Laing O’Rourke has committed to the establishment of a local office which will accommodate key Project personnel enabling direct access and contact for industry and business representatives.
The partnership between Laing O’Rourke and CQUniversity during the term of the ASMTI Project (2019 -2022) in providing training and associated qualifications for a skilled worker base across the region will greatly assist in addressing the skills shortages currently being experienced.
